A multi-point inspection is a pivotal part of preventative maintenance for any vehicle, including your Volkswagen. But if you’re like many drivers, there’s a good chance you aren’t entirely sure what goes into this inspection, much less how often you should get one. At Eich Volkswagen in St. Cloud, MN, we want every driver to feel confident with their vehicle’s performance, and you deserve to feel comfortable and informed when you bring it in for maintenance. Here’s what you need to know about a Volkswagen inspection.
A multi-point inspection involves checking your vehicle all over in several key areas. In a nutshell, these checkpoints are used to determine if any further maintenance or upkeep should be performed to keep your vehicle at its optimal performance level, not to mention increasing its longevity. Generally speaking, the inspection includes a check of all vital engine components (such as the air filters, oil, and drive belts). Also inspected are the HVAC system hoses, tire tread, and pressure, wiper blades, battery, headlights, brake system (including front and rear brakes), CV boots and joints, and all fluid levels.
Many Volkswagen drivers are surprised to learn that they should be getting a multi-point inspection done about as often as an oil change. To be specific, this should be around every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. It’s worth noting that not getting a multi-point inspection does not automatically guarantee you’re letting your vehicle fall into disrepair. Still, it does mean you could be missing out on some potentially easy fixes that could become more serious later on. Think of it as a regular health checkup for your car.
Our service professionals will note any issues found during your vehicle check and deliver a list to you before doing further work. They are often simple, quick fixes, such as replacing wiper blades or refilling tires with air. For convenience, a lot of drivers also like to get multi-point inspections done during their oil changes, so some things (like topping off fluid levels) are already expected. If more extensive maintenance is needed (for example, poor tire tread means you need new tires or there is an issue with your HVAC hoses), you will be notified. Sometimes the extra maintenance can be performed right then and there, while at other times, you may need to schedule an additional service appointment.
