When your A/C goes out, it can be due to a few different reasons. By far, the most common is that your A/C has sprung a leak and needs to be repaired and recharged. When that happens, the proper function of your A/C is compromised, preventing it from providing the cool air you need. We’re here to help with that at our service center at Eich Volkswagen, where we’ll look over your A/C and figure out the problem so that you can stay cool.
Air conditioning is a system based on the physical principles of a specific type of gaseous chemical called refrigerant. Refrigerant can easily be compressed, and your car’s compressor does just that, creating a pressurized hot liquid that runs to your condenser. The condenser cools down the liquid but keeps it pressurized, pushing it through to a valve where it can be released. Once the pressurized and cooled liquid is released, it turns back into a gas, but it sucks in all the energy it initially released, creating a cold chamber over which your car can blow cool air to you. The refrigerant then cycles back to the compressor.
Your A/C depends on pressure to function and can’t tolerate any leaks in the system. When our technicians check for leaks in your system, we inject a fluorescent dye into the system, which we can then check with a special light inside your car. Once we’ve found the leak, we determine which part is responsible for the leak and get you a replacement from our parts department so that the system no longer leaks.
After any leaks are found and fixed, we’re happy to recharge your A/C. We don’t recharge A/C systems leaking, as they’ll just leak out the new refrigerant. Once your system is recharged, the right pressures of refrigerant will be present so that the process can keep your cabin cool again.
